¡No dormir engorda!

¿Existe realmente relación entre la falta de sueño y el aumento de peso?

Hello a tod@a, hoy vamos a tratar un tema que me ha parecido muy interesante. Parece un tópico pero todas sabemos que dormir bien es primordial para llevar una vida sana y equilibrada, el tema es ¿tanto como para ganar kilos? Pues parece ser que sí, así que ya sabes, si no consigues adelgazar y eres amante de la noche quizás ese sea uno de tus mayores errores.

Os cuento, basándome en mi propia experiencia es, al no dormir, al andar demasiado cansada, al arrastrar las horas de falta de sueño y/o no conseguir conciliar el sueño, cuando me doy cuenta de que un efecto raro ocurre en mi metabolismo.

Al día siguiente me despierto con mucha hambre, como y parece que no he comido, me comería todo lo que veo…

¿Por qué ocurre esto? Pues veréis, lejos de lo que yo pensaba, esto no ocurre por ansiedad, sino por un efecto químico que el exceso de cansancio y falta de sueño producen a nivel frontal en nuestro cerebro.

Tras varios artículos y lecturas he descubierto que hay un doctor llamado  Hengyi Rao, experto de la unidad del sueño y profesor de la Universidad de Pensilvania (EEUU) que comprobó que la falta de sueño provoca cambios en la actividad cerebral, no sólo en la toma de decisiones sino a nivel del apetito y eso nos interesa y mucho, sobre todo a la hora de querer mantener la línea o querer perder peso.

Tras su experimento Rao apreció diferentes comportamientos en un grupo de control de 40 personas a las que sometió a falta de horas de descanso. Tras el mismo el Dr. Rao  publicó (en la revista Scientific Reports) la estrecha relación existente entre la falta de sueño y el aumento de apetito. Se comprobó que aquellos individuos con mayor actividad nocturna y que habían dormido poco menos de 5 h, al día siguiente optaban por comer más alimentos ricos en grasas, azúcares e hidratos de carbono.

Por el contrario, aquellos que habían dormido conseguían mantener una dieta más sana y no expresaban esa necesidad extracalórica.

De manera paralela se ha apreciado que aquellas profesiones que requieren de turnos de noche, como farmacéuticas, doctoras, enfermeras, militares, transportistas, bomberos, policías, etc. Evidencian alteraciones en las dietas, de ahí la gran importancia de alimentarse correctamente para no aumentar el peso.

¿Qué deducimos de todo esto?

Que la falta de descanso está totalmente relacionada con el aumento del apetito y ello comporta un aumento en el consumo calórico de baja calidad y por tanto conlleva un aumento de peso en aquellas personas que no descansan bien.

Esto demuestra la importancia de realizar un descanso completo en nuestra rutina diaria, la mente necesita desconectar y reposar para proceder de manera adecuada y de este modo el equilibrio metabólico mejora en cuanto a calidad y control nutricional.

 

Peligro en la falta de sueño:

Si vamos más allá podemos apreciar que hay grandes errores que se han acontecido a lo largo de la historia debido a la falta de horas de sueño y que han creado accidentes, guerras y decisiones fatales para la humanidad.

De hecho, no dormir genera en el ser humano irritabilidad, falta de paciencia, mal carácter, falta de empatía y disminución de la energía, eso no hablar de la pereza a la hora de despertarte, el retraso a la hora de asistir al trabajo y el stress que ello provoca.

 

Conclusión: 

Si lo que queremos es perder peso, no sólo debemos dormir para estar preparados para afrontar nuestras rutinas de entrenamiento, sino también para estar más motivados, para comer más sano y para llevar a cabo un metabolismo equilibrado que nos facilite alcanzar nuestro objetivo.

Si dormimos más tenemos menos ataques de hambre y un apetito acorde a nuestro gasto calórico.

De todo esto aprendemos y concluimos que esencial y realmente importante dormir entre 8 y 9 horas diarias, que 5-6 horas no bastan y que nos harán ganar peso, y que hemos de concienciarnos seriamente si lo que queremos es estar más sanas y felices.
